XDefiantUbisoft’s recently released free-to-play call of Duty-like shooter, is set to receive new factions and maps based on other Ubisoft games. That’s no surprise. But now we know, thanks to a data miner, that content from Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry: New Dawn, The Crewand even the, um… Rabbids are planned for future updates.
After a name change and numerous delays XDefiant started last week. The first days of Ubisoft’s online FPS were tough because Matchmaking issues. Now that the dust has settled and people have had time to play it, the general opinion is that it’s pretty good. I enjoyed it a lot. And I also appreciate that it doesn’t take up 200GB of space on my console’s SSD. But it’s 2024 and people can’t just live in the moment and enjoy something. No, we have to think about the future. What’s next for XDefiant? Ubisoft gave us a vague plan, but a dataminer provided more information. In fact, it seems they gave too much away, as Ubisoft has reportedly used DMCA takedowns to remove some of their online leaks.
New factions, weapons and modes are coming in XDefiant
On twitter User Rogue TX has apparently shared datamined content and files from XDefiant. This leaked content seems to provide us a clear roadmap what to expect in the shooter’s first year. Assuming nothing changes, these are the first four factions coming to the shooter in the next 12 months or so:
- Assassins from Assassin’s Creed
- Operator from Ghost Recon Breakpoint
- GSG9 members from Rainbow Six Siege
- The Highwaymen from Far Cry: New Dawn
Rogue TX was able to find in-game assets:including symbolsMap names, character renderings, Animations and more-indicates that XDefiantCurrent plans for the coming year include these additions. (Keep in mind, though, that plans change and game development is chaotic, so some or all of these new additions may not be implemented.)
In addition, Rogue TX also found data suggesting that Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Infection are new game modes that Ubisoft is currently planning to bring to the game. XDefiant in a future update. Also found in XDefiant‘s files are some possible new weaponsincluding a sawed-off shotgun, a Tommy Gun, a FAMAS, a gun turret, an RC car, a FAL and a G36 rifle.
But perhaps the strangest thing Rogue TX has found in the game are indications that factions are formed based on The crew
If you are wondering if these leaks are real, Ubisoft has probably given them credibility by Reportedly with DMCA strikes to remove some (but strangely not all) of images and screenshots collected by Twitter. Some of Rogue’s images are now missing, and a message appears suggesting that the copyright holder has intervened and removed them.
My city has contacted Ubisoft about the datamined content and XDefiant‘s future. But for now, this seems to be our best look at the possible future of Ubisoft’s free-to-play FPS.
