Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga did something very few games have done in recent years: it topped the NPD Switch sales chart in April, becoming the first non-Nintendo released game in over a year. and Skywalker saga not only topped the Switch sales charts last month, but every other console’s chart as well, according to the latest NPD data.
Corresponding the NPD data shared today (First discovered by GameSpot), the latest family-friendly Lego adventure from TT Games, was April’s best-selling game, beating elden ring, which is right behind it in second place. (It should be noted that elden ring also sells very well even outselling call of Duty.)
As mentioned, Skywalker saga was also the best-selling game across all platforms NPD oversees, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch. Snapping to the top of the Switch sales chart for April is a big deal, as Nintendo-released games almost always top the NPD Switch charts. A non-Nintendo title that takes the top spot isn’t common.
The last third-party game to accomplish this feat was Monster Hunter Ascension in March 2021. This happens so rarely that I had to dig back quite a bit to find another instance of a non-Nintendo title topping the list. In fact, the last time happened in April 2019 with the release of Mortal Kombat 11
If history is any indicator, then probably Skywalker sagas time at the top will be short-lived, as non-Nintendo titles rarely repeat this feat two months in a row.

This is another example of how important exclusive games are for Nintendo and its consoles, which probably explains why the company has so many Bangers lined up for later this year. This is especially true when compared to the other consoles that seem to continue to exist big exclusive products were delayed these days.
