Magic: legends is an upcoming free action RPG and game The PC Open Beta starts on March 23rd. Developer Cryptic Studios shared a new video that shows the deck building element of the game, which is inspired by the source material from Magic the Gathering.

While Magic: legends is in the same genre as the Diablo titles, Magic the Gathering is best known as a competitive card game, where players build decks and fight opponents. This element carries over into Legendsand the game relies on the lore of the card game.

Each deck consists of 12 spells, four of which are available for each. New spells are randomly cast when the player uses the tools at their disposal. This creates a system where players can determine which specializations and tactics to pursue while still having elements beyond their control in moment-to-moment combat.

Player familiar with Magic the Gathering recognizes the five magical schools: white, red, blue, black, green. Green focuses on nature magic, like summoning massive creatures and taking control of the world around you, while black deals with necromantic magic and deadly curses.

There are also player classes, and the classes are geared towards a school of magic, but not tied to those affinities. For example, a Blue Magic class can build a red / green hybrid deck without worrying about incompatibilities.

The game was developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment. Magic: legends will be released later in 2021 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Magic is also coming to Netflix as an animated series.
