A rare black lotus that is most valued Magic the Gathering Card ever made, sells Wednesday for $ 511,100. That’s more than three times the price paid for a similar card in 2019 and more than five times the price the card was in 2018.
Released in 1993 as part of the original alpha set of magic Cards the Black Lotus doesn’t need any mana to play. The artifact adds three mana of each color to your pool and is particularly valued in-game as it can be used to cast powerful spells very quickly. The card in question has been rated by Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA), one of the top two organizations to be assessed magic Cards.
What makes this card so special, however, goes beyond the fact that its corners are a little wider than today’s magic Cards and that its edges are free of chips and scratches. The case this card arrives was signed by artist Christopher Rush, whose style set the tone for this first edition of the world’s most popular trading card game. Rush died in 2016 at the age of 50.
The auction that took place on eBay is also evidence of the continued upward trend in the value of trading cards. The Pokémon TCG has been brand new for months, with the value of unopened first-edition cards redeeming $ 400,000 and coveted singles not far away.
Just like trading stocks with your friends on Reddit, trading trading cards is not without risk. A deal for $ 375,000 worth of Pokémon cards went south last year when it was found that the case in question was filled with junk instead.
