Wizards of the Coast has lifted the curtain on 2025 Magic: The Gathering Release calendar, including a preview of the art of a highly anticipated crossover with Final Fantasy. But the publisher also revealed some big changes that will come to the trading card game. A flurry of announcements made live at the MagicCon fan convention in Las Vegas could even change the trajectory of the popular TCG forever.
By far the biggest announcement is the fact that starting next year, all future Universes Beyond releases produced will be legal in all formats, including standard. Universes Beyond first launched in 2021 and offers intellectual property outside of the traditional magic Multiverse that swaps characters like Jace Beleren and the Phyrexians Stranger Things‘ Eleven, Hatsune Miku and the Space Marines from Warhammer 40,000. In the past, these crossovers were split into alternative formats. Starting in 2025, they will be a central part of the franchise’s gaming experience.
To make room for the next calendar year – and for the foreseeable future – there will only be three magic A Multiverse-themed set is released every year. Wizards said it expects the new Foundations will close this perpetual gap and provide the necessary maps until at least 2029. Otherwise, fans should expect the “three-and-three” beat to continue at three magic Multiverse offerings paired with three Universes Beyond sets.

Top billing goes Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasya Universes Beyond set releasing on June 13, 2025. Wizards describes the set as the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever released in a single game.
“You’ll see artwork from across the franchise,” said lead designer Mark Rosewater magic Artists along with classic illustrations from legendary Final Fantasy artists as well as brand new stunning pieces created specifically for this set.”
Magic: The Gathering – Innistrad Remastered combines popular cards from multiple sets of gothic horror classics into one new and sophisticated product. The magic The Multiverse set, releasing on January 24, 2025, will also include 500 sequel copies by Edgar Markov.

After Final Fantasy in June, Magic: The Gathering – Edge of Eternities takes the magic Multiverse into space in a completely new environment.
“Over the years magic has explored many different interpretations of fantasy and really expanded the definition of what fantasy can be,” Rosewater said. “[We’re] I’m trying to take a lot of tropes from space fantasy – planets and aliens and all that – and create a really brand new, exciting one magic World unlike anything you’ve seen before.”
The second Universes Beyond of 2025 will be the one already announced Magic: The Gathering – Marvel Spider-Manwhich is inspired by the Brooklyn-based webslinger’s rich history of comic book storylines.
