Marvel Snap – Analysis

analysis, Marvel, Snap

You’ve probably heard of the game since it’s become a phenomenon, but there’s a reason Marvel Snap launched it and catapulted it to success. And it’s just that it’s a very good card battle game. This genre is pretty jam-packed with other titles, many of which are brilliant on their own, but Marvel Snap is great because it’s simple, exciting, easy to understand, yet has a very high skill ceiling. What more do you want?

Basically, the concept of this mobile card game is to use a collection of Marvel characters to win one of three positions on the board. Each location named after a location in the Marvel World (e.g. Hellfire Club, The Sovereign, or more recently Shuri’s Laboratory) has its own unique effect (locations are randomly assigned each game). ) and only four cards can be placed in each of the three positions. The main catch is that each card in the deck (the decks have around 12 unique cards in total) has an energy cost that ranges from one to six, and the most expensive ones will likely not be playable until after the game is over. because after each round the available energy increases by one. So you could play Quicksilver with a cost of one unit of energy from the first turn, Doctor Strange with a cost of three from the third turn, and the Incredible Hulk with a cost of six in the last turn of the game, unless a strange effect changes this in any way. And with that core concept in mind, we need to win two of the three positions by beating the opponent’s attack stat line, by using the cards in the deck and in each hand wisely.

It’s a much simpler game than it might seem. It’s not like Hearthstones, Gwents, or Magic: The Gatherings. No, this is basically a simple game that’s easy to pick up, but because of the way the positions work and how unique the decks can be, there’s also a lot of depth to explore and discover. In addition, the design is so simple that the games last a few minutes at most, making it an ideal title to spend a while in line at the bank, on the subway, or when you need to kill a little time, to entertain. But the fact that the games are short doesn’t mean they aren’t exciting and competitive, because they really are.

You lose yourself trying to trick your opponent and figure out not only how he’s moving in the current round, but also how he’s going to tackle the rest of the game. And because Marvel Snap is so simple in design, you can make those predictions to an extent, which is even more rewarding, especially when you use the double score snapping feature, which doubles your ranking reward points when you or we win doubles the amount we lose in case of defeat.

One of the aspects of Marvel Snap that bothered me the most when I first tried it was the microtransactions and their implementation. It’s true that this is an issue with almost all mobile games I play these days, but for this game I can say that it’s not too aggressive in its current state. Of course we can spend money on things like new cards like Captain America, but at the same time the built-in progression systems and access to free Battle Passes mean that new cards are constantly being added to our deck without us having to spend a penny. In addition, the maps that we can buy do not seem to be overwhelmed at the moment, as is the case with a lot of paid content in free-to-play video games. And as if that wasn’t enough, spending money in currency to improve cards is not a problem since the mechanics don’t actually improve a card, it simply changes its appearance, turning the original 2D background into one in which the cards appear. Images go beyond the scope, then become 3D and so on.

It is a game that is very fun and comfortable for the user at the moment. Will this continue to be the case as the season progresses and more mechanics and features are added? Well, that’s the real question, but if Second Dinner can keep it simple, fast-paced, and as exciting as it is now, there’s no denying that Marvel Snap is already one of the best card games out there.
