If there’s anything that finally brings me back to the terrifying prospect of a crowded, dark room with poor ventilation, it’s Sam Raimi directing Doctor Strange Consequence. But unless Strange PhD has cast another of his wayward spells, I’ll be spending way too much time staring at the actors in the background. It’s all because of the multiversal madness in a promotional snippet that was handed over to IMDB and once I’ve pointed it out, you’ll never be able to overlook it again.
Apparently originally spotted by a Twitter user @jbhayek8the Internet Movie Database exclusive little clip of Doc Strange battling a massive invisible octopus features the same poor man in the brown suit (and pants, judging by his expression) walking over and over and over (and over) in front of the scene flees, all in all just a minute of footage.
@jbhayek8 counted him four times but by our count the unfortunate man and his man bag at least appear six Mal in front of Strange and had to run past him to escape. Count them with us…
Is Strange maliciously casting one of his famous orange portals (stolen from Aperture Labs without consent)? That would be particularly mean of him, and would mean a lot of extra work considering the giant killer cephalopod is taking up quite a bit of his attention.
Perhaps it is a hitherto unknown force in America, Chavez, who dives into this bus at the beginning of the clip and then stands in an impressive continuity Inside it in the middle of the scene and then rescued when it falls out near the end.
Of course, such flawed details often show up in movies, and people love to pore over movies to find the tiniest continuity flaws, and then crow about them as if they’ve just disproved the authenticity of that documentary material. But this one is particularly egregious, not least because it was handpicked to be released as promotional material for one of the biggest movie sites on the internet. We reached out to Marvel to see if they knew what could be happening here.
Still, I can’t wait to see this. Sam Raimi is doing Marvel for the first time in 18 years! The above could only have been better if the guy running away was Bruce Campbell.
