MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries it takes a couple of hours to really get the movement going. As for the game involving the construction of one-size-fits-all robots from tomorrow's weapons, that's too long. Add a voice tool that's not allowed to work, the character models look strange, and the CGI cutscene is cringe and it all adds up to a really bad first impression. But, after suffering a buggy, pre-release version of the game I'm really excited about starting playing with a new one-day build. That's because MechWarrior 5 it makes shooting one & # 39; Mechs so much fun.
MechWarrior 5 it is the first single-player game of its kind in nearly 20 years. It puts you in the cockpit – or more on the shoulder for a third party, if you like – for 50 tonnes of BattleMech. The action builds from there, extends to larger and faster units and extends to additional AI-controlled teams. The game also supports up to four players in multiplayer, but I've never had a chance to try that feature.
Unfortunately, MechWarrior 5 it doesn't do a good job of showing you the ropes. The lesson misses important bits of information and pursues things like targeting enemies, which is key to launching long range attacks. Directing also helps you guide your AI-controlled friends. The game includes a system for assigning partner orders, but skip specifying what those orders cause the AI to do.
It's part of the fun of writing. The script feels popular, with quips released from the 1980s action movies. Voice acting is hard, just like models for non-player characters. Your engineer won't even bother to switch from foot to foot as he stands in stores, looking at the middle distance while moving his lines.
Below this unpleasant world, however, is the beginning of a serious fight. Part of MechWarrior 5Questionnaire is the way it forces you to aim your guns. Weapons are mounted on hardpoints all over the body and arms of & # 39; Mech. In front of you there is only one purpose to direct. So, while a laser etched into your & # 39; Mech's chest will mark anything you find in the jumping junctions, an autocannon tied to your right side will hit the same target low and to one side.
It makes finding the distance a little tricky. As a result, it always feels like you're being shot from the waist. Slowing down aerial targets as they grow can be a lot of fun, but hitting fast moving tanks and landed cars is an act of frustration. Frequently the explosive shells and laser beams will hit the terrain in the foreground or fall due to a missile focused on other weapons. At the moment, those little things don't seem to be lacking. MechWarrior 5 it's very much a skill-based game, and I see myself needing to spend more time before I feel really comfortable.
The second task of the game is mainly the low point. Alone, to the Mech who was in possession of the firearms and was in bad shape, I had to take a lot of tank and plane war. After that I had to thrive on a single, fast Mech enemy as they surrounded the circles around me. I breathed a dozen times, just before I got to work. To make matters worse, saving was not allowed during the war, so each time I was forced to go back to the beginning to start over again.
At the very least, playing these same machines often gave me time to try out a few different control strategies. I've played MechWarrior 5 with the mouse and keyboard at first, but getting it is a bit much. Moving both the & # 39; Mech and torso with the WASD keyboard section is incompatible, especially when it comes to throttle control.
The game gave me one chance when I got it running on HOTAS. Support has only been included in the last few days that I have been able to access the game preview build. I'm excited to report that MechWarrior 5 works well with the Saitek / Logitech X52, but I found it very attractive for the Trustmaster T.16000M Flight Control System. That sets the bonus victim to the throttle, actually allowing me to control the lower part of the Mech with my left hand and the top part with my right hand. As of today, the group tells me that the bases and feet are supported.
Developers in Piranha games have been working on equity issues in the last weeks leading up to the release, and everything still needs to be included. I'll be sticking to my final decision until I put in more time into the game. MechWarrior 5: Mercaries On sale starting this morning for $ 49.99 through the Epic Games Store.
