earlier this month, Metroid Prime Remastered got introduced and released digitally on Nintendo Switch. It’s very good and a perfect example of how to remaster an old game. However, it was not physically available until yesterday, February 22nd. And um, well, it’s still kind of not available physically as people are reporting that stores aren’t selling out copies of Metroid Prime Remastered almost immediately.
On February 8th, 2023, Nintendo finally announced (after years of rumours) a fully remastered version and then promptly released it Metroid Prime, which originally launched on the GameCube in 2002. This new port includes improved textures, models and modern control options. Although this new version of the game received critical acclaim, until yesterday it was only available digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $40. In theory, you should now be able to buy a copy in a store or on Amazon. However…
As spotted by IGN, some people who pre-ordered the game through online stores like Amazon reported on February 22 that their copies were suddenly delayed until March or even April. Like online and physical stores Goal And best buy are also sold out quickly. Looking online, I found that most stores didn’t have copies of Metroid Prime Remastered in stock for pick up. Even Wario64— the web’s most popular video game deal finder — can’t seem to help people get their hands on the game. And over to RedditPeople share stories about how hard it is to find a copy of Prime anywhere.
Nintendo limits how many copies of Metroid Prime
You can buy
my city Editor-in-Chief Alyssa Mercante, famous for her coverage of The witcher 3‘s Labiagate, headed to the Nintendo Store in NYC to see if she could snag a copy for herself. Apparently the store was pretty busy – as you’d expect – and she was only allowed to buy one copy of the game. When she asked the store staff how many copies they had left, they told her they were “not allowed to disclose that information.”

Meanwhile as Metroid Prime Remastered It’s still hard to buy physically through regular retailers, folks on eBay are already trying to flip copies of the game for more than $40. Many sell it for $70 to $90, but some are asking more, and at least some listings are trying to sell the game for $100 or more. I’ve even seen at least one listing asking for $400. It seems that in less than 48 hours the physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered has become a collector’s item.
I think this is a good time to remind people Metroid Prime Remastered is available digitally on the Switch for $40. If you really want to play the game, that’s the best (and kind of only) way for now – at least until things cool down and Nintendo (hopefully) fills stores with more copies of its fantastic remake.
