Someday, the classic shooter of the 90s demise will be playable on every single electronic device with a screen. We’re not quite there yet, but thanks to some clever hackers, you can now play id’s groundbreaking shooter on a jailbroken tractor because we’re living in the weirdest, dumbest cyberpunk future imaginable.
DefCon 2022 – a major annual conference on hacking and computers – was taking place in Las Vegas over the weekend, and during the event Some modders showed a jailbreak tractor computer. The tractor computer was hacked by Sick Codes to raise awareness of how little control farmers have over their own equipment, which often runs proprietary software cannot be easily modified or repaired.
After months of working with numerous John Deere tractor models and computers, the Australian modder was able to gain root access and open wide the tractor’s computer.
“Free the tractors!” said the modder Wired
Of course the right to repair and allowing people to fully modify and control the things they own – especially when it comes to something like farming, where broken tractors could cause food shortages – is extremely important, but also to fully modify it Get access to the hacked computers sick codes Have fun. So of course they got demise running on the device.
Sick Codes used the source port Dehacked Doom and with some help from another modder, skeletonwas able to create a farm theme demise Mod fully playable on the John Deere tractor jailbreak system.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this demise running on something other than a game console or PC. In fact, for years people have ported id’s classic FPS to countless different things, including (but not limited to) pregnancy tests, tills, other gamesand even potato-powered calculators. Now we can add John Deere tractors to the list.
