The next highly anticipated title in Capcom’s Monster Hunter The series has finally resurfaced at PlayStation’s State of Play showcase. The upcoming RPG called Monster Hunter Worldseems to take elements from both Monster Hunter: World And Monster Hunter Rise, and merge them into an even larger and more interactive world.

It was first revealed with a 90-second teaser at the end of last year’s Game Awards. Monster Hunter World seems to allow rideable companion monsters, similar to Raisebut with a higher level of hostile environments and fluid movement mechanics. As the trailer’s main character maneuvers through a desert environment, we got a glimpse of the improved monster density on screen and how the world might change in real time.

The trailer for the State of Play show focused on the dry desert biome that wilderness first trailer and gave us a first detailed look at the gameplay of the upcoming title. The player character is seen with the equivalent of a great sword, a common weapon archetype that is used in the Monster Hunter Games as well as a rifle and a flamethrower as they use a range of weapon skills against some truly fearsome new monsters.

One of wildernessThe most striking feature seems to be the changing environment, as seen in the sandstorm that hits the player mid-battle. The weather also seems to change dramatically – at one point a thunderstorm rages in the background of an epic encounter. Another great addition is a rideable companion that seems to change the game. It seems to slip in and out of combat seamlessly, and at one point even picks the player up to save them from a monster’s next attack.
