Earlier this month, MultiVersus Developer Player First Games has announced a new PvE mode for its fighting game. This mode, called Rifts, will feature unique combat scenarios and mini-games, as well as cinematics and story elements, according to the developer. It will be updated seasonally with new content.
We’ll see characters interact in mode-specific ways in Rifts, and Player First promises to continue expanding the PvE mode from season to season. Featuring a fully voiced cast featuring the talents of John Dimaggio, Matthew Lillard, Tara Strong and more, the game will bring together a long list of beloved characters for some unique interactions.
One notable issue facing the developers is the death of Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne in animated films and video games. In MultiVersusConroy is reunited with his colleague Batman: The Animated Series Actor Mark Hamill, the famous voice of the Joker. In an interview with the co-founder of Player First Games and MultiVersus I asked game director Tony Huynh how the studio plans to handle future Batman content following Conroy’s death.
“Kevin Conroy was a huge part of my childhood,” Huynh told me before broaching the subject, “and Batman is my favorite fictional character, period. Kevin’s death affected me personally very much. And I think the pairing of Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy is special in our game.”
“I actually don’t know what we’re going to do in the future. We have to find out. But no matter what happens, we want to pay respect to Kevin and his legacy. A big reason why Mark Hamill is in the game, in my opinion, is because Kevin is too. So Kevin is extremely important to our game and the work he has done for our game will continue. I don’t know exactly what we will do in the future. We plan to update the game regularly and need to come up with a plan for that, but it’s not final yet.”
A representative from Warner Bros. Games added that “Conroy has done a lot of voiceover work,” “so Batman will be playing that role for the foreseeable future.” MultiVersus.”
MultiVersus will return on May 28 with many new additions. The free-to-play game will once again be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
