South Korean studio NCSoft announced a trailer for its “new interactive movie game,” dubbed Project Mon Tuesday. Project M was created with Unreal Engine 5 and is expected to appear on consoles in 2023, the studio announced in a press release. No specific consoles were mentioned.
The hyper-realistic trailer does indeed look like a film – alongside what NCSoft calls “cinematic production” it features near-photorealistic graphics. The trailer shows a story revolving around a husband – possibly – to take revenge on the murderer of his wife.
It looks dark, a little scary and full of action. Player choices seem to matter throughout, with keystrokes popping up throughout the game and affecting the story. NCSoft confirmed in the press release that “player choice and control can affect the story and ending of the game.” That seems to apply to everything from decisions to dialogue to precision-based actions. Throughout the trailer, NCSoft has infused the gameplay footage with some behind-the-scenes developments, including 3D scanning and motion capture.
Said NCSoft’s senior development management officer Project M is part of a larger initiative to bring transparency to development. Further footage of the development progress is expected in the form of “trailer videos, interviews, novels and webtoons”.
NCSoft is a developer and publisher headquartered in South Korea. Founded in 1997, the studio is best known for publishing MMORPGs Guild Wars and Harmonix’s fixer, as well as the development of the MMORPG ancestry.
