ne on white
Originally released on PC and Switch, Neon White is coming to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on December 13th. And while the PS4 version will be a pretty straight forward port, the PS5 edition will take advantage of the superior hardware stuff like running at a constant 120hz and Use the SSD drives to speed up load times (which makes a big difference when you have to restart a level for the 97th time).
Most interestingly, though, the PS5 version will use the console’s adaptive triggers, which will set the PS5 version apart from all the rest. As director Ben Esposito says the playstation bprotocol:
Neon White also takes advantage of PS5’s adaptive triggers to make each soul card feel unique when you fire it and when you put it down. The controller haptics also provide an additional level of feedback. You’ll feel it as you move faster on the water, and you’ll get a subtle acknowledgment when you successfully slay a distant demon. Our goal was not just to make you feel cool, but to develop a sixth sense. To turn you into a speed running freak.
Our impressions of the game in June summed up the appeal of the game pretty well:
I’ve spent the last few days trying to figure out why this bizarre mix of items is clicking and I think I got it. Last summer during neon white‘s first marketing push, Esposito told me, “The energy that drives this game is the energy of the teenagers. This was what I would have thought to be the coolest thing ever when I was a teenager, inspired by 2000-era anime The Matrix and all that stuff.” Now that the game is actually in my hands, that ethos is evident—right down to the anime-inspired intro.
