When Sony Pictures’ Uncharted and Morbius Start streaming in 2022. They will only do this on Netflix. Netflix announced Thursday.
The Uncharted The adaptation is currently planned for a premiere on February 18, 2022 Morbius, about the vampire / scientist from the Spider-Man canon is scheduled for January 21, 2022. Other Sony images streamed exclusively on Netflix include: Express train, Where the crawdads sing and the sequels scheduled for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseand the Venom, Jumanji and Bad Boys franchises.
The streaming deal extends over five years. The New York Times reported on Thursdayand begins with the 2022 releases. (In the Sony and Netflix statement, it was just referred to as a multi-year deal.) It replaces the deal that Sony has signed with Starz Entertainment since 2006. (Sony Pictures Animation, maker of In the spider versealready had a separate agreement with Netflix.)
“Sony Pictures is a great partner and we look forward to growing our relationship through this forward-looking agreement,” said Scott Stuber, director of global films for Netflix a statement from Sony Pictures. “Not only does this allow us to bring their impressive selection of popular film franchises and new IP addresses to Netflix in the US, but it also creates a new source of first-time films for Netflix movie lovers worldwide.”
Diversity with reference to unnamed sources from industry, Sony executives also work on a different theatrical release film licensing agreement, separate from the Netflix deal. The same sources said the Netflix deal “will represent a record-breaking price for a pay-one-window agreement,” reported Variety.
