It looks like Netflix, rinse off your success adapts Cowboy bebop, have their eyes on another popular Japanese character: Mega Man.
How picked up through Rockman corner, the website for Henry Joost and Rel Schulmans Production company Supermarché has a section on their website where they talk about upcoming projects, and under it all is this piece about the Blue Bomber:
Henry, Rel and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss have an active development list. Features in the works include: An adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix that they wrote and directed.
The movie itself isn’t the news here. Live action Mega Man The film was first reported in 2018, and was affiliated with Chernin Entertainment, the same company listed on Supermarché’s website. The 2018 announcement even said Henry Joost and Rel Schulman, who previously attended the Paranormal activity series–wanted to write and direct the movie, so nothing has changed.
What’s new here is the Netflix angle, maybe it helped because Joost and Schulman did Project power for the steam service last year. This can be seen as good news, because unlike Hollywood, Netflix actually appears to be able to make things like thiswhich is bad news too, given the platform’s recent track record in customizing things—The witcher aside – was terrible, to the point where it’s now a worn out meme.
In 2018, Capcom described the movie announcement as:
Based on the influential and globally popular Mega Man franchise, Capcom aims to appeal to a diverse audience that includes not only gamers but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of Mega Man games while maintaining the great one Incorporating production and entertainment value for which Hollywood films are known.
It remains to be seen whether stepping down on Netflix will be able to keep its promises.great production and entertainment value ”.
