Netflix announced this today The Witcher will be back for a fourth season. It wasn’t all good news, however, as the streamer also confirmed Henry Cavill will not be returning for Season 4. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will be the new monster slayer, Geralt of Rivia.
Live action adaptation by Netflix of the popular witcher The books were first broadcast in 2019 and quickly became popular. Many praised Henry Cavill’s stoic yet charming rendition of the white-haired witch Geralt. Since that first season The Witcher has grown into a true franchise for Netflix, resulting in more seasons, anime prequels, movies, and more even a kid-friendly spin-off. But the star of the original series won’t stay as the fantasy franchise grows.
In a tweet posted earlier today, Netflix confirmed that Cavill will step down from the role after The Witcher season 3 airs… sometime in the future. From the fourth season Liam Hemsworth becomes a member of thewitcher Family” and will wear the white wig and wield the cool swords as Geralt moves forward.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventure, and sadly I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement shared by Netflix.

“As with the greatest characters in literature, I pass the torch with reverence for the time I’ve spent impersonating Geralt and with enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most intriguing and nuanced of minen,” Cavill continued, “Liam good sir there is such wonderful depth to this character, have fun diving in and see what you can find.”
Hemsworth, A witcher Fan himself also shared a statement about the surprising news, saying that he’s been a fan of Cavill’s take on the character for years and that he’s “inspired” by his performance and what he brought to the character.
“I may have a few big shoes to fill, but I’m really looking forward to joining The witcher world,” said Hemsworth.
The first online reaction was… not great! Many fans are confused and upset to see Cavill leaving the role. And while it’s likely he’ll hang up the swords and medallion to replace it with a red cape and tights when he returns to the DCEU film franchise as SupermanI suspect many witcher Fans will be sad when the nerdy actor leaves the popular show. But hey, with all that DC money, he probably can build an even cooler PC!
