Blizzard is now taking pre-orders for a big special worth nearly $100 DiabloIV Collector’s box containing many things. But it doesn’t include the game. And while Blizzard isn’t trying to trick people into accidentally buying this game-free box, it still seems very odd that there isn’t even an option to get the game with this expensive pack of demonic goodies.
Expensive collector’s editions of video games and films have become increasingly popular over the past decade. Personally, I’ve never felt the need for all the random gubbins and statues that usually come in those expensive packs, but I get it. Some people just love collecting everything related to their favorite franchise or series. Whatever You Like! Just don’t get confused and think that $100 DiabloIV
This week Blizzard started taking pre-orders for what it calls DiabloIV Limited Collector’s Box over at the Merch Store. This big, snazzy looking box costs you a cool $96.66 (I see what you made there…) and contains all of these items:
- Occult Mousepad
- Cloth Map of the Sanctuary
- Pin of the Horadric
- DiabloIV Collector’s Edition Art Book
- Frosted Art Prints (x2) – 18.54″ x 10.79″
That’s very nice and all, but you’ll find that the game isn’t part of that pricey package. Now Blizzard isn’t trying to fool anyone. In the store description it is clear that this box does not contain the game. It also doesn’t sell the box on Battle.net but does sell it on its merch site, further separating it from its video game store. So I’m not trying to imply that Blizzard is trying to pull a fast one and trick the die-hards Diablo
I think for people who prefer to buy a digital copy of the game through a third-party site, or who want to give a physical gift to someone who may have already pre-ordered the game, this is a good idea. But why not have another version that costs 60-70$ more and includes a code for the game? Or even a discount on it! Although such things might make things more confusing.
Despite it, DiaboIV will be released on June 6, 2023 on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC. If you want it, don’t buy this box. Or yes, but then also buy the game separately.
