Marketing horror films is an art in itself. From classics like The Exorcist to more recent examples such as The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal activityand myself SmileGreat marketing campaigns have always been a hallmark of the horror genre. And 2024 has already given us a strong year with the funding Long legsNicolas Cage’s mysterious new serial killer film.
Neon’s marketing campaign for the film is largely based on what we don’t know. The studio has released a series of spooky teaser trailers and Pictures, none of this explains the film (and may not even show any of it). But each one is troubling.
All of the teaser images and videos seem to revolve around a family that is a victim of some kind of violence occult murderers who broke into their homes. In the meantime we see FBI agents are digging something up, a nun in a bloodstained habitand even a woman pointing a knife at her own stomach. It’s magnificent, creepy and above all so disturbing and strange that you have to wonder what it has to do with the film.
In a time when most trailers give away the entire film in just three minutes, Long legsThe trailers don’t really tell us much about the film. Instead, they focus solely on mood. They paint a very scary picture of a movie that looks great and scary. And this is a great way to get there Encouraging horror film fans to come to the cinema.
As for the actual film, it appears that it follows a serial killer who has been working for several years, as the teasers give us accounts of crimes from 1974 to at least 1992. We know that Maika Monroe (It follows) will appear in the film as an FBI agent investigating these crimes, and we know that Nicolas Cage is in the film – possibly as a murderer, although we don’t know for sure.
Long legs It is directed by Osgood Perkins, who specializes in a certain type of dark and brooding horror, often with particularly disturbing results like Gretel and Hansel or The Blackcoat’s daughter.
Long legs will hit theaters sometime this year.
