Nike's unofficial Star Wars sneakers

There’s one thing Nike sometimes does when, even though they don’t have the official license for a branded shoe, they just pick a very obvious color scheme, get the fans nicknamed and run with it anyway. It worked on everything from Doraemon to Gundam, and it continues next month war of stars.

This is one of my all time favorite sneakers, the Presto Mid Utility (better known lately for its acronym collaborations), clad in a color officially known as “Carbon Green / Black-Ghost-Pollen” but has already and predictably been referred to as “Boba Fett”. But it’s not the only one. There are actually three pairs in this line who all use the same shoe and are all inspired by … that scene in Reich strikes back when Vader has all the bounty hunters lined up?

The second pair above are “Darth Vaders” (all black is usually a winner, but that silver heel could be a bit much), while the third, underneath and possibly even more beautiful than the Boba Fetts, is already called “Bossk”:

Note that Nike does not have the war of stars License. Adidas does, and they’ve spent the last couple of years bringing out some over-branded, cheesy stuff that looks Marketed exclusively to 9 year olds and the cartoon guys from the Simpsons. Nikes Shoes here are only for legal reasons a collection of sneakers that all happen to have some very specific themes and colors in common.

So that Nike come out like that and bring out a whole range of war of stars-inspired shoes, right at a time when Adidas’ efforts were being ridiculed by sneakerheads, definitely feel like more than just a tribute, it feels like a statement.

All three pairs are set to be out in November 2021, and since these are general release shoes, getting your hands on them might be pretty easy!
