Earlier this month, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa was questioned about acquisitions made in the wake of Microsoft’s and Sony’s last moves.
“Our brand has been built on products made with passion by our employees, and it would not be a plus to have a large number of people in our group who don’t have Nintendo DNA,” Furukawa said answered then. In view of this, the purchase makes perfect sense. SRD isn’t just a long-standing partner, it’s a big part of Nintendo’s console history.
The acquisition is expected to close on April 1, when the new fiscal year begins in Japan.
