We’re less than a month away from that release of elden ring. Some are already planning to step away from work to play it. Others plan to go off the internet to avoid another likely round Discourse on game difficulties. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has addressed the issue in a new interview, saying that while he has no intention of doing it elden ring Easier than some hoped, he believes more people will finish it than previous FromSoftware games.
Asked about the difficulty and accessibility of the game over on the PlayStation BlogMiyazaki tried to set the record straight as to what that was Dark Souls games is really about it before diving in, why he hopes elden ring won’t weigh players down as much as his past games.
“I don’t just feel like our approach to these games elden ring, is to design them to encourage the player to overcome adversity,” he said. “We don’t try to force difficulties or make things difficult for their own sake. We want players to use their cunning, study the game, remember what’s happening and learn from their mistakes.”
The game master continued:
We don’t want players to feel that the game is punished unfairly, but that there is a chance to win a difficult encounter and make progress. We understand that souls-like games are regularly associated with impossible difficulty levels with high barriers to entry. But we try to make the games so that the cycle of trying to complete these challenges over and over again is fun in itself. We hope so too elden ring and the new opportunities it offers, it will be a success in that regard.
These new options as indicated in previous interviews, include more ways to sneak around and avoid enemies and bosses, as well as exploring a different part of the open world after getting stuck somewhere. Miyazaki also reiterated that multiplayer summons will be much more accessible this time, giving players more opportunities to call in reinforcements to help them out in particularly difficult moments.
“In elden ringwe didn’t intentionally try to decrease the difficulty of the game, but I think more players will finish it this time,” Miyazaki said.
Elsewhere in the interview, he continued:
In general, I want new players not to feel pressured and to be able to play the game at their own pace. I don’t want to force a playstyle or route because I want them to experience that sense of freedom. And I realize that while we offer games with a high level of challenge, we make them so that mastering them feels fulfilling. But I don’t want new players to worry or stress too much about this difficulty.
The players discussed whether the souls Games should have difficulty settings for yearsand while the gaming industry as a whole has started to make gaming more accessible in all possible waysBySoftware has stayed behind. While it’s not yet clear exactly what Elden Rings’ full suite of accessibility and customization options will look like, it sounds like the open-world nature of the game itself could go a long way in attracting different types of players there meet where they are, even if they still are, occasionally finds ways to kill them en masse.
