Flappy Bird is officially back and now playable on Telegram – but things aren’t going well for the 10-year-old viral game.
Before this message, Nguyen had apparently not posted anything on X for seven years.
Although the Flappy Bird Foundation clarified in its press release that it was a new team that was not originally involved, its tweets could be interpreted differently since it wrote as Flappy Bird herself: “I’M BACK!! Just a decade ago, I was the talk of the town, reaching new heights with my 100 million friends. Unfortunately, I had to leave the fame and spotlight behind to go home and find out who I really am.”
Regarding crypto participation in Flappy BirdThe Flappy Bird Foundation also remained vague on this matter – at least in its social media and press releases. Flappy Bird is currently playable exclusively on Telegram, a messaging application, a detail that has been removed from its linktree. The Flappy Bird website was also cleared of any mention of cryptocurrencySolana token or Web-3, although it is no secret that it is available on Telegram. An earlier version of the website stated: “Artists, developers and creators can use the legendary Flappy Bird IP” and that “Flappy Bird will now be the world’s first community-owned open source Web 2 and Web 3 game.”
The version of Flappy Bird on Telegram operates on the TON blockchain, and players will have the option to connect to their crypto wallets in the game, Polygon has confirmed. A crypto wallet is not required to play. The Flappy Bird Foundation is currently running a reward-rich “Flap-a-TON” point mining event to generate hype for the game, which will give access to a new game mode called Flappy Bird Rivals, where apparently a group of players – 99, according to the developer – play together; in Polygon’s test, the other players appeared like ghosts on the screen. As with the Notcoin earning app, which is involved in Flappy Bird on TelegramPlayers tap to earn points. There are also advertisements that a player can watch to earn more.
Flappy Bird has no release date for other platforms. Flappy Bird doesn’t seem to have fully launched on Telegram either – the “Flap-A-TON” event is intended as a way to collect points before the full launch.
