Pokemon Snap™ – Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online

If you’ve never played it, here’s an excerpt from an appreciation post we ran back in 2018:

I went back to Pokemon Snap on a few rare occasions over the last twenty years. Every time I do this, I discover something new to love.

It’s a pretty slow affair, but it was obviously designed that way. The game wants players to have time to check their surroundings and take in everything. The rustle of a Meowth sneaking through the foliage or the splash of a Poliwag diving into a nearby river. I noticed that Pokemon Snap offered an aspect of this fantastical world that the original games never had—experiencing Pokémon in their natural habitat. Red and BlueThe top-down view of never really represented Pokémon in the wild. It hid them in the tall grass of the Viridian Forest or in the dark corners of Mt. Moon. Pokemon Snap was about giving players a less stressful look into the world of Pokémon. A kind of interactive excursion.

And here are some of Faheys Review of the newer game:

Back in 1999 on the Nintendo 64 if we wanted to share it Pokemon Snap Photos we had to invite people to (gross) or had our cartridges stolen by ex-girlfriends (true story). Now we have the internet that we can fill with embroidered images of Pokémon until the cloud runs out of space, which will never happen because clouds are magical.

New Pokemon Snap is also quite magical. It takes the unique formula of the 1999 original and expands it just enough to feel like a whole new adventure without diluting the simple joy of driving and photographing impossible creatures.
