Outriders, the new ones Looter Sagittarius by People Can Fly has been one of the releases we’ve been expecting the most in the past few months. This title, which takes place on a ruthless alien planet and in which we possess incredible and powerful abilities, had all the makings to become a great representative of the subgenre by fulfilling many of the most important requirements. Now, after an Easter weekend where we were able to see almost all of the content of this adventure, we have found that the very high expectations we had were largely met. Of course, the game is not without its flaws as we noticed some flaws.
Here we play as the leader of a military group (known as The Outriders) who, along with his team, are sent to test the potential of the distant planet Enoch and later bring the few survivors of humanity there. . However, when our protagonist and his companions discover that this magnificent and precious planet is indeed an inhospitable nightmare, the land order is compromised and humanity is condemned to a long and bleak journey with no direction. Enoch is a veritable nightmare, as we have already said, and is plagued by wild animals and destructive storms known as anomalies that vaporize those who touch them or transform them into a being from another world.
After our protagonist comes into contact with one of these storms, they are introduced into a cryogenic chamber in the hope of being awakened in a future where a cure has already been found. However, this future is not what he expected, and thirty years later, humanity has been divided into groups fighting among themselves for resources and land. We will survive. And that’s not all, because our Outrider, who wakes up in the middle of this apocalyptic world, has become a new person: a being with mystical and deadly powers, a changed one. Well, with this character’s new abilities and powers, we must venture more than anyone into the wild lands of Enoch to ensure the survival of the human species. As you can see, the story is pretty attractive, but it’s in the gameplay, in the dynamics of the game, that this work shines.
Designed as Looter Sagittarius, Outriders is a third-person story based title in which we basically have to shoot anything that gets in our way in hopes of gaining new gear that will make us stronger and allow us to to be enemies at the height of the world. We have to say that at first glance this experience looks very similar to The Division, with cover systems and tactical play. However, the locations, enemies, and skills that are included remind us more of Borderlands, albeit on a much more serious note.
Today there are four classes of changed people to choose from in the game: the pyromancer, the illusionist, the technomancer and the destroyer. For example, to give you an idea, the destroyer is distinguished by the fact that it is a sponge made of bullets and acts as a tank on the battlefield. while the illusionist uses his abilities to dodge the enemies who cross his path and inflict great damage on them.
Outriders is still a narrative experience and as such can be played that way. We can complete the campaign alone or with two other friends and do it all at once or gradually and explore the many secondary missions that are out there. In addition, those who wish to face greater challenges can opt for the world level system (the world levels). This way, players can add difficulty to the game and level up the enemies to make them stronger and do more damage. You may be wondering what we gain from this, because the answer is simple: we have a better chance of getting better quality loot. Outriders has 15 different levels of difficulty to unlock and play, and works similarly to Borderlands 3’s Mayhem mode. The problem is that to unlock the next level we have to play on the highest level of difficulty there is, and when we get to level 7 reach it, it is getting difficult.
When it comes to enemies, there are a multitude of people and wild animals to fight with. Humans can be normal enemies or armored mini-bosses with mini-guns. On the flip side, we also have to deal with an extensive list of wild animals, from flying creature-like creatures known as the Strix to ruthless and imposing breeding mothers. However, most of the wildlife’s enemies are the smaller and weaker creatures of the Perforo. Likewise, there are also bosses and mini-bosses that have unique attacks, high health and kill you almost instantly at the highest level. These bosses and mini-bosses have certain skills that set them apart from the other enemies in the game. But what exactly are these skills made of? Well, these are forces that can do a lot of damage (like that of our protagonist) and that we can counter with other attacks. Finally, like our Outrider’s, these skills can be used both to change the state of someone or something (e.g., freeze or poison), as well as to exercise control over the crowd. Because of this, it is better not to experience any of this.
By defeating these enemies, we get new weapons or armor that can increase our defenses or our powers when we use them. However, since Outriders a Looter Sagittarius That is essentially getting the best statistics. On more than one occasion, we will have to equip ourselves with the best objects we have, rather than the ones we like the most … at least until we reach the expeditions at the end of the game. These expeditions are designed for the bravest Outriders, and in them, players will face the toughest and most challenging battles of the title in order to obtain the most valuable and powerful equipment. These missions can be completed on your own, but for the most part it is important to have your friends around to defeat enemies, especially at the highest levels in the world where they are always stronger and harder to complete.
Let’s get to the shortcomings that we mentioned at the beginning. Currently, the main problems with outriders are in multiplayer. The title can be played by up to three people on different platforms. The problem, however, is that the servers are pretty lazy. We don’t really like destroying this, especially if it’s a game that has just been released, but our experience with this mode has been disastrous. We have encountered connection errors and on several occasions we were not allowed to add people back to a game if they were disconnected. Add to that the fact that it would freeze every two by three, especially if we were trying to play in multiplayer. We enjoyed Outriders on an Xbox Series X and as a standalone experience it works pretty well (it only crashed a couple of times). However, freezes are much more common in multiplayer, which means that we cannot enjoy this adventure with friends. Likewise, it should be said that this type of problem appears to be more likely to occur with the latest generation consoles.
To address these shortcomings, we will say that the worst thing about Outriders for us is the fact that we cannot play it offline (separately), even on our own. This makes it a very frustrating and unplayable title when there are problems with the server.
However, we conclude that we had a great time playing Outriders. It’s a fun, attractive, and stimulating game. Of course, some minor issues don’t make it a very special job. If you have the courage to venture into the Enoch wilderness, Outriders offers you a great story supported by very solid and precise game and shooting mechanics. In addition, the fact that you can increase the difficulty of gameplay at all levels of the world does not mean that you will feel like a god among people thanks to the changed skills of the protagonist.
