If you’re looking for another first-person open-world RPG set in a sci-fi world, it’s hard to miss the latest Stand out games. With worlds much more open to exploration and many, many more quests to check out Stand out 3, 4And New Vegas feels like a natural progression after playing cyberpunk.
Stand out takes place after a nuclear catastrophe, so it falls more into the post-apocalyptic category of science fiction. But how cyberpunk, Stand out is very interested in the theater of his fictional technology: you will come across all sorts of interesting contraptions, some made in the apocalypse, others barely frozen in time behind closed doors, buried in labyrinths of a world now gone. Apart from inside failure 4, your protagonist will be silent. And in general, the narrative is not as dominant as 2077‘S.
Stand out has a slightly slower tempo than cyberpunk. You won’t be zipping around in fast cars or fighting for split seconds. While aiming is important, most combat situations use the semi-frozen frame VATS system, which allows you to target specific body parts on enemies. I’ve always found this to add a satisfying level of pseudo-turn-based action that still feels close to real-time. And there are a variety of builds to try as you progress through the game. In general, combat more than showcases your character’s aesthetics and exploits Cyberpunk 2077 ever does – you rarely see V after the character creation screen.
If you only pick one of these, I recommend going with it New Vegas. It’s the best, period failure 4 may feel a little more modern, but its narrative isn’t that interesting and it’s a little too cluttered with busy work like building bases and calls to help another settlement dealing with some invaders or radioactive monstrosities. God I’m tired of just writing this.
When you’re wrapped 2077‘s campaign and want another compelling first-person RPG to jump into, Stand out should be one of your first stops.
