That surveillance 2 Technical beta version started on April 26th and players have already started browsing the build for content. One player even did a side-by-side lighting comparison video the differences between the beta and the original game that recently launched on twitter. The two video footage appeared to be nearly identical, leading to the game being mocked on social media.
to some members the community, surveillance 2 is beautiful battle to carve out unique identity from his predecessor. A well-regarded thread on the Official Blizzard Forum called the game a “glorified update” and one commenter called beta ‘Server test.’ It’s not that Blizzard didn’t make any gameplay changes (They have). The problem is that the community has high expectations for a so-called ‘sequel’ to one of the greatest team-based shooters in the world.
The comparison video only cemented those community fears. Even a fan after seeing the widespread comparison (which has been viewed nearly seven million times at the time of writing). joked that surveillance 2 takes place six hours after the first game. Several commenters on Twitter and Reddit noticed this surveillance 2 looks like passed breaking Bad‘s “Mexico Filter” (a shrill yellow filter filmmakers apply to scenes set in non-Western countries).
All reactions are based on beta recordings, which means that the current build of surveillance 2 is not considered final. The developers still have plenty of time to make significant changes to the game until the 2023 launch date. A developer blog states that the beta is “mainly focused on gameplay and balance as well as stability” and that all other incomplete features are “work in progress”. The blog specifically named the changing daily conditions as a feature that is not being publicly tested.
Even so, over watch Fans have many reasons to be cynical about the future of the game. In addition to concerns about the game itself, Activision Blizzard itself has had massive cultural issues that keep making headlines. Many employees were fired or resignedand there is one growing list from entities they have publicly expressed theirs disapproval by Activision Blizzard (which recently settled a sexual harassment lawsuit for $18 million). The general negative sentiment towards the game, its developer and its parent company has shattered any community patience for the beloved franchise.
