Overwatch 2‘S tenth season is officially underway and everyone is pretty happy with the new damage hero Dareand the fact that she (and the rest of the Overwatch 2 Cast) are official afterwards free for everyone Locked behind the Battle Pass for over a year. Blizzard also added some major changes with Season 10, such as a incredibly expensive Mythic Skin Shop and changes to try out Make the game less toxic. It has also apparently caused queue times for leaderboards to become unbearably long.
High level Overwatch 2 Players on social media and Blizzard’s forums report enormous waiting times in competitive play after the start of season 10. These range from 30 minutes to well over an hour in some cases. They’re so bad that streamers are switching to playing other games Fourteen days or Dead by daylight while waiting because they can start and finish a game in the time required Overwatch 2 to find one.
Some of these players reference “Wide Matches,” a new feature that allows players of different ranks to group up and play together, in their posts. Blizzard said outright that these games would likely have a longer wait time because they would only compete against other large groups for fairness. But I don’t think anyone expected such a long wait. Even without the large group factor, some still seem to have longer wait times when playing exclusively on their own ranked list.
Overwatch 2 Fans have been asking for ranked matches with friends of different ranks for years. This is one of the main reasons I didn’t delve into competitive sports (even though I’ve been playing ever since). My friends and I couldn’t play together because they played ranked games for years and after a while they ended up in higher ranks than me. Now that the feature is available, the only way to play with friends of different ranks is to spend money waiting for a match than it would actually take as the matchmaker struggles to find a compatible opposing team to find. While the wait times and the expensive Mythic Shop were poorly received, Venture and the upcoming Mirrorwatch event were well received by fans. The theme for season 10 turns heroes into villains and vice versa. Villains like Sombra, Doomfist and Widowmaker in classic Overwatch blue and white have taken up most of the marketing spotlight, but there are also some off-the-beaten-path remixes like Symmetra and Genji as a “junker” similar to Junkrat and Traffic Hooligan. It’s a really neat theme and I wish a Talon version of Soldier: 76 had made it. I’ll just have to settle for Overwatch Sombra, my love.
