Today Blizzard gave fans a glimpse of how surveillance 2 will transition from its predecessor’s standard pricing of $60 to a free-to-play live service model. The Reveal Event stream also provided insights into the seasonal release roadmap and the newest hero: Squire Queen.
Aaron Keller, Overwatch 2′s game director, said the team opted for free-to-play to ensure the new release was “a living game” with seasonal content drops that players can look forward to “for years to come.” .
“Over the past several years, we haven’t done our job well enough to deliver that for our fans and we sense their frustration,” Keller said. “We have our strategy for surveillance 2 to ensure we can regularly and consistently bring new heroes, new maps, modes, and more to the community.”
The team plans to release these updates every nine weeks through seasonal events. surveillance 2 Production manager Paul Halile said players will be able to see what they think in the second beta of the game, which will be playable on both Xbox and PlayStation, as well as PC.
