It's not often that I find myself re-thinking a game that would take me over 100 hours to complete. I love Japanese gaming, but big time is dying, and I play super JRPGs for second time is usually a difficult request for my playing time.
That said, Persona 5 isn't it a classic JRPG. When it was released back in 2017, it was praised for being a fun adventure that encountered complex themes and distribution. Of course it wasn't perfect, there were notable gameplay annoyances and certain narrative aspects were open to criticism, but those figures weren't enough to disrupt the way a whole lot of fun was supposed to be played.
Persona 5 Royal arrives later this month, and is basically updated, and redesigned, for the original game type, with more structure going into the final. If you want a serious violation of Persona 5, check out the first Polygon review. This is review, of In royalty, will focus more on where the new version differs from the old one.
It's totally new to him Persona 5, here's a quick summary: You play as a teenage boy in Japan who is falsely accused and ends up with a criminal record. He makes friends with other children who have been purged by bad adults; gain the power to make those bad adults feel remorseful and admit their guilt (against monsters in their minds); and made a conscious effort to save the world.
You spend half your time in the real world working on extracurriculars, studying for exams, and building friendships, the other half of monsters fighting, stealing wealth, and convincing other teenagers and strange creatures to fight you.
Now, if you've played the original Persona 5 earlier, I want to warn you first that the first 100 hours or hours you spend Persona 5 Royal it will be an experience. While some new content is sprinkled in the first months of the story, and many new improvements are available, you can truly do the same action on the same dates. In royalty and get especially the same results.
Much of the content of the new story comes in the third semester recently added to the game, but until then, the changes in the narrative will be very few and far between. You will see added tweaks of intrigue, not a good composition, for most of your time in this fictional Japanese setting.

Persona 5 Royal introduces two new characters for Confidant, the desire to exercise Kasumi and school counselor Takuto. Kasumi is a member of a new gaming party that's playing, but it's important to note that it's actually not playable until the third semester, even though it's been telling from the beginning. His early instincts feel compelling. He is the only person named, who is repetitive to seem to do nothing for a great team, and for the first time weird. You are forced to be his friend, and while he is well-written, he has social networking features just like other characters, and often seems to be out of touch with the main story.
Takuto, on the other hand, is blown away by the lack of narrative there is. After the events of the first pitch of the game, where the neglected teacher can be said to bully students, Takuto is brought in to provide much needed mental health support to you and your classmates. While your visit to a new counselor is optional, and left for you to get into your busy schedule, other members of your team will visit on their own throughout the game, providing good insight into the mental health issues that teens are trying to change the world.
And while investigator Akechi is nothing new to him Persona 5 Royal, his social network has been completely changed. Now your bond with Akechi in your turn, rather than taking on scripted events, is similar to the other characters of the game. He has several new situations, which enhance him as a character, and provide valuable information that returning players should be explored.
It is important to roll out all these new fields as much as possible before the end of the second semester. That's because you might have missed the important parts of the third semester altogether if you hadn't put the characters together in a while – something that was not properly conveyed to the player.
The new semester is a different story, with some plot threads from the first two semesters locked by the player. Treat it like a one-story extension to another game: Prepare to be involved with third-semester activities away from the main building. Don't expect to end social networking from previous memes over Christmas.
The additional structure of the third semester, the palace, and the last villain are all great additions Persona 5. While the theme is probably a little thought out, it's well presented, and well worth the hours I've planned to reach. It provides a better shutdown than the actual ending of the game, and provides a really beneficial fight for those who are looking for a challenge. After spending 120 hours completing this main story and DLC, I even feel that the villain's premise of a first-rate villain can be far more sensitive and direct than that of the main game. I realized that the criminal thought he was the hero of his own story, making for a very interesting narrative solution to the game.
Aside from that obvious addition, Atlus makes some minor tweaks to the wider game, which makes its gameplay more fun. Certain scenes of the significance of the building that were previously silent now add to the full voice of the performance; Ministers now call you after hangouts, helping you raise their rates faster; and Morgana is no longer crying out to you to sleep straight at all times. You may not be able to go out every night, but you will always have the option of watching TV, studying, reading a book, building tools, or making a coffee at night when you are too tired to leave the house, giving extra time to raise your stats. I can't tell you how happy I am that I wasn't always told to sleep when I wanted to go down and just make coffee. These small changes make the world of In royalty
Improved quality of life is more than just a daily game for Palace, Persona 5Enemies carrying enemies. I was relieved to find that my rifle now fills its ammo automatically after each encounter, a major improvement to be fought. From the beginning Persona 5, guns were useless; they suffered significant damage and could be loaded with condition effects, but their ammo would last for a long time or one range. Moving to reloading automatic weapons not only makes them more efficient, but also makes it more useful to invest in gun replacement. I even used Iwai, a shoot shop owner, in my first play, but firearms became a reliable source of illness that took me through some stages In royalty.
The individualas now each come with interior features In royalty, the special energy that can come from the snow forces the SP's less energy to keep it at lower temperatures. These features can be transmitted using persona fusion, providing an extra layer of customization as you figure out how to get the most useful skill from the right person. While at first I didn't pay much attention to these aspects, in the last game I was spending time frankly trying to find a way to something higher.
Baton Pass – the ability to transfer to another character with free attacks after each successful attack on the enemy – is now available from the beginning of the game for all characters, rather than needing to be unlocked. By visiting the new Kichijoji game site, you can play arrows to boost Baton Pass significantly. In the end you can use it to provide benefits like HP restoration of characters, and promote sequential Baton Pass threads. While Kichijoji town has a few new shops and specialties, the ability to expand the Baton Pass service is a major reason to find time to visit it.
Returning players can see that Palace's groundbreaking is slightly reduced to landing In royaltyNew hardcore essay. It feels less impactful than most improvements; using it to come down feels almost unnecessary. But some points of pig growingling can lead to hidden rooms with Will Seeds, something completely new inside In royalty. Each collector will activate the SP to help you get into the depths of a single chair, and collecting all this will allow you to gain a powerful element of the game. Finding these coins is simply the right level for the optional challenge of exploring the digging hole. Each of the last seeds of the pit is guarded by a difficult enemy whom I would argue is sometimes more difficult to overcome than the captain of the prison.
Compared to the prison trial, the chief of the king fights inside In royalty they are recycled, and mostly for the better. Kings that used to bounce back and forth between the two forms – like the twisted art dealer Madarame – now present each form once, or introduce new forms that facilitate the narrative of the enemy in question. Having Madarame has created his own fake copies that continue to be in need, for example, he feels like a fitting way to spark the boss fights I once knew well, while combining well with his genius.
The only really bad aspect of the prison trial – it's undeniably bad in the first game, and much less developed In royalty – interview sessions when trying to convince new Personas to join your team. They are still rarely written; each question A person asks has nothing to do with the choice of interview I was given to answer with. It is amazing to write so well in so well-written drama.
While Mementos, the game's longest running computer, is far and away, Atlus is making minor changes to make it less of a gaming task. The music, which once repeated the same loop forever, now changes over time as it deepens, which has gone a long way in alleviating my boredom. The hole also has a new character: Jose, a little boy who will trade flowers and stamps hidden throughout the Mementos to enhance your earned experience, bonus money, or rare items. Because of this, I found myself more inclined to simply rush out of each layer of Mementos, instead driving straight and making sure to explore everywhere. Jose is not a social network, but as an NPC with a small store and building, he helps Mementos feel like he has been cut off from broader issues.
There is another point of the story that I feel is overlooked. Before the release of Royal, Atlus makes a big deal online about the fact that the English home team was planning to review the opposition status from the original game. The paramedics have changed it, but their changes have not gone far enough, and the incident is no good.
Original Persona 5 features a scene in which lesbian older men approach character Ryuji – a teenager – talk about how hot he is, admit that he knows he is too young, and then grip him and drag him away. Only two gay characters who kidnapped a child have declared their innocence. It's a soft, uncomfortable, unnecessary place – and it's an unavoidable part of the game's story.
The revised situation is actually not very good. The two men now think that Ryuji can do it privately and is ashamed to admit it. They also ignored her saying no, and dragged her to force her to wear women's clothing against her will. It is still a situation where two young adults are dating a teenager and forcing him into an unwanted situation, and it still sounds bad and has a cough. Don't take it In royalty in the hope of seeing great progress in the incident; it's definitely a game that I really enjoyed playing.
Frankly, when it comes to my complete thoughts Persona 5 Royal, they are simple. If you liked the original game and wanted to play it, there are plenty of health improvements to make your revenge smooth, and the extra content in the third semester is a real treat.
You'll have to use something else too much content, but new storylines, characters, and gameplay changes are well worth the time. If you have never played Persona 5, along with the idea of a long JRPG about making friends, making bad adults admit to their crimes, and fighting monsters sounds cool, this is the perfect way to get the game going.
Note some of the complicated elements that can be completely corrected. But the game is stylish, full of things to do, and is still one of the most exciting JRPGs in this console generation.
