Well, we can’t do cash register numbers. So let’s do this now.
As reported by Deadline, soul, the newest Pixar animated filmabsolutely rocked Nielsen’s weekly streaming charts for the last week of December. The film about a music teacher and Jazz artist separate from his body, was released on Disney Plus as a replacement for a widespread theatrical release, a decision made due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. That first week it was streamed for a total of 1.6669 billion Protocol. This equates to roughly 500 million views of the film, although it is assumed that anyone who has streamed any part of it has streamed everything, which is likely not the case.
This sum of around 1.7 billion beat the most streamed title in Nielsen’s charts, which is almost always the case The office. This week, the end of the show’s long tenure on Netflix, it rose 1.435 billion. It will soon switch to Peacock as the streaming service’s ads are happy to tell you.
The Nielsen streaming charts are a new way to keep track of media consumption habits, and it’s interesting to see big event releases making an impact. As for the other big Christmas release, Wonder Woman 1984, Nielsen has not yet added HBO Max to their card system. So we don’t know.
