Pokemon Go hosts a Cyndaquil Community Day Classic event on June 22nd from 2-5pm local time.

As expected at a Community Day event, Fierygel will appear in large numbers and there is a high chance that it will appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks that we list below.

How do I catch a shiny Cyndaquil?

According to old research from the now defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates on Community Days are around 1 in 24, meaning you should find a lot of shiny Pokémon if you play through the entire three-hour window.

If you are short on time or Pokéballs, you can incensethen quickly tap each Firefly to look for shiny ones and run away from any that aren’t shiny. In particular, any Cyndaquil you’ve already tapped will look towards where your player is standing. This should help you identify which ones you may have already checked out.

What Community Day move does Cyndaquil’s evolution learn?

If you evolve Iquilava into Typhlosion between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. your local time, it will learn the charged attack Blast Burn.

If you don’t manage to evolve it during that time frame, you’ll likely be able to evolve it to get Blast Burn during a Community Day weekend event in December. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the switch.

How does Typhlosion perform in the meta?

Typhlosion is pretty much outclassed at this point by many other Fire-type attackers like Reshiram, Heatran, Volcarona, and Darmanitan, to name a few (and that’s not even counting Megas and Shadows, which push it even further down the list). Shadow typhlosion holds its weight pretty well as a Fire-type attacker if you manage to grab one when you equip it with Incinerate and Blast Burn.

How do I make the most of Cyndaquil Community Day?

The following bonuses are active during Cyndaquil Community Day:

  • Double Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Double XP for catching Pokémon
  • Frankincense lasts three hours
  • Bait modules last three hours
  • Cyndaquil special photobombs when taking snapshots

Nevertheless, you should definitely burst a star piece, a lucky egg and an incense stick and try to grab a powerful Fiery Gel.

If you can Mega Evolution Charizard, Houndoom or Lozikenyou get additional Cyndaquil Candy per catch. With Original reversal on Groudon works too.
