Pokemon Go is hosting a Squirtle Community Day Classic event July 9 from 2pm to 5pm your local time.
As you would expect from a Community Day event, Squirrel will appear in large numbers and will have a high probability of looking shiny. There are also some other bonuses and perks which we list below.

According to old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine) the shiny rates on Community Days are around 1 in 25, which means if you keep playing during the three-hour window, you should find some shiny Pokémon.

Squirtle wearing sunglasses will not spawn in the wild. According to the Official site for Niantic’s Squirtle Community Day Classicit will be available from event field research.
To complete this research, all you have to do is catch Squirtle. So make sure you spin PokéStops to pick up this research if you want a turtle with sunglasses.
What Community Day step does Squirtle’s development learn?
If you evolve Wartortle into Blastoise between 2pm and 7pm local time, it will learn the charged movement hydrocannon.
If you can’t evolve it in that period, you can use an Elite TM to make the move.
How is Blastoise doing in the meta?
Blastoise isn’t the best of the best anymore, but Mega Blastoise is now one of the strongest water attackers around. If you’re even planning on investing in Megas (which you should, if you’re able to), grab a powerful Blastoise and set it up with it water gun And hydrocannon.
Blastoise does pretty well in Ultra League, as it can be both bulky and equipped with Hydro Cannon, one of the best moves in the game.
How can I get the most out of the Squirtle Community Day Classic?
The following bonuses are active during the Squirtle Community Day Classic:
- 1⁄4 Hatch distance for eggs laid in incubators during the event
- Incense sticks last three hours
- Lure Modules lasts three hours
- Squirtle special photo bombs when you take snapshots
However, be sure to put all your eggs in incubators, pop an incense, and try to get hold of a powerful Squirtle during the event period.
If you can Mega Evolution Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados or Swampertyou get additional Squirtle Candy per catch.
