The Pokémon Company revealed a type of new Pokémon coming to market Pokemon scarlet and Pokemon Purple this November: Wiglett, a variant of the Paldean region on the lovable Diglett soil type. Wiglett is tall, white and loves to hang out on the beach.
Wiglett was unveiled in a somewhat unusual way on Wednesday as part of a fake Zoom call between members of the World Ecological Pokemon Societyshowing a presentation about the Paldean region by Jacq, the player’s homeroom teacher Pokemon scarlet and violet. Various biomes and Paldean Pokémon are featured throughout the video, including another newcomer, Paldean Wooper. Members of society notice Wiglett’s appearance and liken it to a region-specific version of Diglett—although it appears to be a distinct species.
Whether Wiglett will evolve into another form – like Diglett evolved into Dugtrio – is unknown. You can watch Wiglett’s reveal this video uploaded by Serebiiif you don’t want to watch the entire World Ecological Pokémon Society presentation.
On Thursday, The Pokémon Company made Wiglett’s reveal even more official with a new trailer showcasing the Garden Eel Pokémon. Corresponding the official Pokemon website, Wiglett is said to have an exceptionally strong sense of smell and is quite shy around other Pokémon. “Wiglett sticks part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean,” reads the new Pokémon’s description. “It’s still unclear what the rest of his body hidden in the sand looks like or how long it might be.”
Pokemon scarlet and violet will be released on November 18th for Nintendo Switch. The latest mainline game will introduce the ninth generation of Pokémon and the new Paldean region. Players can catch brand new Pokemon like Armarouge, Ceruledge, Klawf, Grafaiai, Fidough, Paldean Wooper (aka Pooper), Cetitan, Cyclizar, Smoliv, Lechonk, and Pawmi. These new creatures are joining scarlet and violet‘s new starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, as well as two new Legendary Pokémon (Koraidon and Miraidon) in the series’ Pokédex.
Update (September 29): This story has been updated with a new trailer and additional details about Wiglett.
