Pokemon scarlet and violetthe next two games in the main line Pokemon seriescoming to Nintendo Switch later this year, The Pokémon Company announced during today’s Pokémon Presents.
The reveal came at the very end of the 14-minute live stream, which showed news for a variety of different games, such as: Pokemon Go. Honestly, most people didn’t expect anything big from the live stream. And that seemed to work at first. The introduction to the trailer saw a real human investigating what appeared to be the gifts ending on a trailer for something Detective Pikachu related. But it wasn’t!
Instead, something that looked like a mix from this year Pokémon Legends: Arceus and 2020s Pokémon sword and sign started playing. There were large open spaces, bright city squares and lots of lens flare. The Pokemon also appear to be much more responsive with additional animations when they appear in the wild.

Meet Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, who are each a grass cat, a fire type that looks like a small dinosaur, and the water type is a kind of bird with a really nice hairstyle. The names sound kind of Spanish, don’t they? Gatito is cat, translated. scarlet and violet‘s new region, meanwhile, appears to be Mediterranean. The teaser showed coastal beaches and what appears to be Spanish-influenced architecture. Fans had previously speculated that Gen 9 may be based in Italy or part of France based on possible clues in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Luminous Pearl.
Many had previously expected new DLCs to be announced arcus, although it’s only been about a month since publication. When sword and sign were released, The Pokémon Company took the next year off and instead gave fans two expansions. This year’s plan is much more ambitious. Players will effectively have received the Pokemon BDSP Remakes, the series’ first open-world spin-off and an all-new series of Main Pokémon games within a single year.
