Where there are cute and lovable Pokémon, There is always a way. Despite less-then-excellent reviews and lots Performance issues and bugs, Pokemon scarlet and violet just broke sales records on the Nintendo Switch and beyond, moving 10 million copies in its opening weekend alone.
“This is the highest-ever number for worldwide and national sales in the first three days of software release for all Nintendo gaming consoles, including the Nintendo Switch,” revealed the Mario creator in a press release late wednesday. Around 4 million sales happened only in Japan while the others 6 million came from abroad.
To put that number in perspective, the final mainline entries in the series, Pokémon sword and Signonly sold 2 million copies in their first two days. They are currently the fifth bestgame ever for sale on the switch suggesting scarlet and violet is well on the way to surpassing and possibly even outperforming them Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 deluxe.
While part of scarlet and violetThe record-breaking success of no doubt has to do with how many other Switches Nintendo has sold in the three years since sword and Signthe fact that they are now the fastest-Selling games ever released on any Nintendo platform, including Wii and DS, adds a whole other impressive wrinkle to that Milestone.
And it also shows that the games objectively gross performance, and the glitches going viral on social media didn’t seem to have hurt the sales pitch one bit for her. fans are still play damn of these games despite the at-times Cyberpunk 2077 levels of errors and performance issues. There had been speculation and certainly hopes on the part of some long-time players that this was widely criticized problems with scarlet and violetwhich published within a year of both the Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl remakes and Pokémon Legends: Arceuscould make GameFreak slow down and allow more time between releases.
That seems increasingly unlikely.
