You may remember this classic time-shifted platformer Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time gets a fancy remake. announced in 2020it was originally scheduled for release in January 2021. then it was delayed. and delayed again, when the project moved studios. Now it has been delayed once more, only this time it has been moved straight to Hell.
Reports surfaced over the weekend that the game had been dropped from retailers, leading fans to believe the project had been cancelled. That was both true and not entirely true; While the game is indeed being dropped from retailers, meaning you can no longer pre-order it, it hasn’t been canceled outright.
That said, and I’m not breaking news here, it doesn’t sound like the project is in great shape. After years of development in Ubisoft’s two Indian studios, it was only last month that it was announced that the game had been pulled from those teams and instead moved to the developers of the original 2003 game, Ubisoft Montreal.
Announcing the move, they said the Montreal team will “now take the time they need to regroup across the scope of the game to give you the best experience of this remake of an all-time classic.” bid when it is ready”. That’s, uh, not a good sign. For reference, FY23 is the fiscal year that doesn’t end until the middle of next year. So if it ever comes out, we won’t be seeing this game for a very, very long time.
