The PlayStation 5 never officially received a price reductionbut Sony continues to discount the console so much that it’s basically the same thing. As part of its annual Days of Play sales event, the company is reducing the regular price of the PS5 by $50. Current exclusives like Spider Man 2 And Rise of the Ronin also receive big discounts.
Details on the Days of Play 2024 sale are available on the PlayStation Blog
PS Plus Extra and Premium, Sony’s Netflix-like competitor to Xbox Game Pass, will also be getting cheaper in the next few weeks. Extra, which includes a library of hundreds of games, will cost $91 a year instead of $130, and Premium, which includes streaming and retro games like PS2 classicswill cost $112 instead of $160. Both prices are just a bit cheaper than the tiers before Sony increased the price a year ago.
Then there are the PS5s themselves. Normally priced at $500 for the Slim version and $450 for the Slim version, both consoles are $50 off when ordered through Sony’s website. The company is also taking a whopping $100 off the price of the PlayStation VR2, which is normally $550. The version included Horizon Call of the Mountain
The discounts come as Sony tries to sell more hardware. Despite the PS5’s impressive sales numbers to date, About half of all PlayStation players have not yet upgraded from PS4. PS VR2, on the other hand, seems to be all but dead in the water. Despite well-designed technology, the high price and lack of must-have games seem to have killed any momentum. Sony has never said how many of the new VR headsets it has sold, and according to a report earlier this year Production has already been stopped due to inventory levels.
