Yesterday Sony officially presented the PlayStation 5 Pro after months of rumors and leaks. The souped-up console will cost $700, allows you to play many games with higher frame ratesand comes without a drive. The latter apparently led to a lot of people buying PS5 drives, which in turn led to the console accessories being sold out on many websites.
On September 10, Sony announced the PS5Pro and the reaction was that many people said: “Holy shit, $700?” mixed with people who say “Wait, there’s no floppy drive?“No! Like the Xbox Series S and PS5 Digital Edition, the PS5 Pro does not have a disc drive. However, Sony does offer an optional optical drive that you can buy for around $80 and install in your PS5. And that drive will work on the PS5 Pro.
In the 24 hours since the PS5 Pro was officially unveiled, it’s become more difficult to purchase a PS5 Blu-ray drive. The drives are currently sold out at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. Over at Walmart
Not all stores are sold out yet. At the time of writing this article, it seems GameStop still has some as I was able to add one to my cart and start the purchase process. The official PlayStation Store also seems to still have them in stock. This has not stopped a few people have already tried to sell the drive on eBay for more than the retail price.
Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro are scheduled for September 26th. It will likely be even harder to get a PS5 drive by then, as people who want to buy a PS5 Pro are now scrambling to buy one. before resellers snap them up and try to sell them for five times their retail price. Good luck out there, guys!
