Ubisoft’s first major release of the year, Rainbow Six extraction, starts on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft announced in a. known blog entry today. It will be available from January 20th and will no doubt send a ton of gamers to the multiplayer cooperative shooter.

Rainbow Six extraction, first revealed how Rainbow Six quarantine officially at Ubisoft 2019 E3 press conference was renamed last June because, well … you already know. Originally slated for release in September 2021, Ubisoft delayed the game until 2022 partly because well … you already know.

In a departure from the past Rainbow Six Fare, which is usually based on reality or at least realism, Rainbow Six extraction throws players against alien enemies. Groups of three players band together to shoot down waves of enemies that hint at the current left 4 Dead Renaissance — a Left 4 Deadaissance, If you want– that’s sweeping through the game industry. The trend has helped build the library of Microsoft’s Games-on-Demand library, spurred on by games like Back 4 blood (currently on Xbox Game Pass), Aliens: Fireteam Elite (currently in Game Pass), The anacrusis (Game Pass later this month) and next summer Redfall (the day and date of the Game Pass starts).

Starting multiplayer games on Xbox Game Pass has proven to be a smart move in the past. Last year, Pioneer, a three-player cooperative shooter developed by People Can Fly, launched on day one of Xbox Game Pass. Within two weeks it was the second most popular game on the service. Not least thanks to the enthusiasm Pioneer in the first month finally over 3.5 million players on all platforms. The President of Square Enix noted that digital sales of the game are possible despite the introduction of a subscription service were comparatively high. It’s not hard to imagine a similar surge in players for Rainbow Six extraction Later that month.

Prior to an official announcement, Microsoft teased today’s news through its terminally cheeky Xbox Game Pass Twitter account:

That’s not the only announcement from Ubisoft and Microsoft today. From January 20th Rainbow Six extractionthe immediate predecessor, Rainbow Six Siege, will be available on Xbox Game Pass, but only for those subscribing to the PC or slightly more expensive Ultimate tiers.

In addition, Ubisoft +, a games-on-demand service that provides access to new and popular Ubisoft games, is coming to Xbox sometime “in the future”. (To this day it is a pure PC service.) In a tweet, said Ubisoft that the service will initially be available piecemeal, not bundled with any Game Pass subscriptions, but said that “more news” is on the way.

When asked for comment, Ubisoft representatives did not have to add anything right away.

Last year, Microsoft added EA Play, a games-on-demand service that provides access to new and popular EA games, to Game Pass, but did not incorporate its availability into the basic subscription tier.
