Yesterday I cranked up the old sadness machine to play surveillance 2 and see what Season 2 new beauty Ramattra talked about vs my entrees. What I quickly found out was that the game’s newest tank hero not only kicks their ass a lot in duels, but he’s also the game’s most stimulating opponent.
Everyone over watch The player knows that with every new patch comes the question, “But what about my mains?” Maybe your favorites are happily unchanged (for now), or maybe one of their absolutely ripping abilities has been nerfed, making your reign as golden God is ended. My special brand of surveillance 2 Brain Rot is less about how patches change my mains and more about how my mains stack up against the new heroes they introduce. My main courses, for those who haven’t asked, are D.Va, Moira, and Soldier 76. Well, not really Yes, really have a main attack because their queue times take forever, but Soldier 76’s Not Kamen Rider skin reigns supreme.

For those looking for a confusing analogy of what it’s like to play against a veteran Ramattra player, here’s my made-up stab: Ramattra is an amalgamation of Doomfist’s aggro, Sigma’s zoning, Moira’s cheese, and Zenyatta’s attitude, for good measure. As surveillance 2‘s new tank, it can do a little bit of everything.

While I encountered many green players in my play session who were still in control of Ramattra’s abilities, I was unfortunate enough to encounter a player who was showing signs of what I called the “new Hero Ultra Instinct.” “ would denote team was dealt a quick defeat. Instead of throwing my hands up and consequently throwing my controller across the room at Ramattra’s bullshit, I actually got excited about it. Like a smug anime villain waiting for a worthy challenger, Ramattra’s tool kit grants when placed in capable hands OW2

If I reported first that Ramattra’s Doomfist-esque slamming ability, Pummel, emits a surge of energy that can pierce shields, hit multiple enemies, and negate D.Va’s Defense Matrix, I scoffed at this bitch’s audacity in breaking through my girl’s while typing on my laptop AT field. In theory, it was annoying. In practice it was invigorating. Typically, D.Va’s defense matrix acts as a great counterbalance against a variety of hero ults being shot. Will you shoot a Hanzo arrow at me? Negated. Will you rain Pharah rockets from the sky? never happened And so on. But whenever I rushed at, say, a lone Mercy for an easy pick, good Ramattras blocked me. I instinctively built up my defense matrix to counter any incoming attacks and continue my attack, but Ramattra’s slash pierced his veil. Of course, my follow-up would be a barrage of micro-missiles to smack away his 450 health, but he would have an answer with his defensive ability. The eloquently named “Block” soaked up the potential damage from my panicked reaction and temporarily boosted its already strong health.
At this point I was left with the proven Joestar technique run away. This caused the Ramattra to freeze my cowardly D.Va in her tracks with his Ravenous Vortex projectile, extracting her from her mech and extracting her soul from that mortal plane. RIP to pieces.

Jack Morrison, my best friend, my sweet cheese, my good mood boy, my lousy Soldier 76, Ramattra has your number. Usually, when you unload a magazine from Soldier 76’s Helix missile-equipped rifle, the enemy’s health points drop drastically. However, Ramattra is built like a crappy brick house and needs to be treated as a high priority target. Whenever I felt like I had let down Ramattra, his durable mechanical AF body would quickly humiliate me for having had the audacity to engage him in a firefight all by myself. Much like D.Va has her mech stopped by Ramattra, Soldier 76’s wobbly leg joints buckle under the spiritual pressure of Ramattra’s imposing aura and I die. Also, the type can shrug off Soldier 76’s Ultimate with a combination of his shield and block ability, so yeah, he’s a tough counter to Jack’s bullshit.

I’m ignoring the “read more” link below because player opinion counts OW2‘s piss girl being OP is a frivolous complaint and they should learn to get better. I’m purely a “damage-focused Moira” who tops the team leaderboard and aids our war effort by restoring my own health, allowing me to link you helpless bunch. Jealousy becomes ugly on you. Playing as Moira against Ramattra was particularly exciting because of their similar playstyles. We both steal our enemies’ lives to level up, and we both have ultimates that double down on this admittedly pesky ability. We are soul mates. Even Star Crossed Heroes. That’s why when I ultimateed and wiped out half of an enemy team on Nepal, I audibly screamed “Nani?” onto a blocking Ramattra, who survived my Kamehameha piss blast and overwhelmed my team with his ult: annihilation. Hmm, Ramattra got hands.
Whenever I did tango with a Ramattra player as Moira, I felt like it Sonic fights against Metal Sonic because our overall strategies were similar. I may know everything they’re going to do to sweep my team, but that won’t necessarily help me as a seasoned Ramattra would also know everything I’m going to do to prevent it. Luckily I haven’t encountered any Ramattra who can read my warp target exactly how when Doomfist wiped out Tracer in his animated short film. Also PPE for everyone OW2 Teams with a Moira Healer: Your ult only works if you run into the fearsome ray. Stop running away from his loving embrace. Christ.
Ultimately, Ramattra plays best with both a dive comp team and against one. His barrier-piercing attacks, zoning, and health-stealing area-of-effect abilities open up heroes like Genji, Tracer, and Winston to attacks and give them easy picks from the opposing team. While I could unkindly complain that he has the best abilities of any highly skilled hero, it’s also what makes him one of the most exciting heroes to play against.
Granted, play OW2 had become more of a muscle memory exercise for me than an immersive team-based shooter. Encounters felt less like situations that are dynamically resolved based on one’s skill and play instincts, and more like scenarios with fixed outcomes, thanks to veterans digging up hard counters against heroes. A restructuring was urgently needed. Gunfights with Ramattra disrupted the rhythm I’d developed with my mains, forcing me to work harder to strategize how to take him and his teammates down. And that’s exciting. I won’t be surprised if a future patch update makes Ramattra less viable, but for now I’m having fun engaging him in the payload firefights free marketplace.
