Rare Street Fighter II Anime finally translated into English

Gif: Street Fighter II – return to the capital of Fujiwara

In 1995 a major exhibition was held in Nara in honor of Japan’s first capital, Fujiwara. Among the sponsors and partners who helped with this was Capcom, who went out of their way to do a 27-minute Street fighter II Film that was only available on VHS at the venue at the time.

Called Street Fighter II: Return to the capital of Fujiwara, it was quickly forgotten – this is the first time I’ve heard of it! – and as that Street fighter Wiki saysIn the following years it remained “almost completely unknown”.

Beginning in modern times, the “plot” sees a selection of the cast of Street fighter II invited to try E. Honda’s new special train. Instead, four fighters – Honda, Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li – find themselves somehow 1,300 years back in time, to Fujiwara.

While you’d expect this to be the build up for some fighting on the street, it’s actually just an excuse to get something Street fighter Characters walking through an animated recreation of the capital, learning about its past and meaning in the civil and political history of Japan.

Even if it’s so short was excavated by Capcom as a DVD bonus for Street fighter 15th anniversary in Japan, it remained largely anonymous to western fans of the series as it was not translated into English.

So a big thank you to SFII Yomigaeru Fujiwara-kyōwho got hold of one of these DVDs translated it into English so we can all enjoy it.

Which I definitely did! The short film is mainly educational because that’s why it was made in the first place, but it also has a lot Fantastic Animation of the mid-90s reminiscent of the more famous ones Street fighter II animated functions.

You can check it out below. And if you have a more descriptive review on a. want to see Street fighter II Anime, you can watch this here.

Many Thanks Richmond!
