It’s been more than 20 years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers released their 1999 album calibration was first released, and thanks to the work of developer Miquel Camps Orteza, its title track was turned into a video game. Finally!
In 2000, the album’s title track was released as a single, and it came with a music video full of jerky, 3D-rendered animated scenes resembling an old PlayStation game. calibration
The original music video is an insane fever dream featuring a shirtless character who confronts bears and chainsaw-wielding maniacs, runs through forests and drives a mining car through a mine, and drags a snowboard on the pipes of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The game trailer looks very much like this original video, showing the gameplay of the characters soaring across the city skies, running off giant boulders, and swimming through the ocean.
According to Orteza, the game started out as a two-day challenge and grew into a full game with seven levels, each with their own settings and gameplay mechanics. Those who want to relive the glory days of the Red Hot Chili Peppers can now download the game for free on Itch.io. for Windows PC and macOS.
