Christmas is almost here so this is a time when many of us gather and do certain things that we think are traditional. Maybe you're watching a certain movie or baking delicious cookies. Personally, I like to get into the Christmas spirit by watching old video game ads from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
These days I no longer meet commercials. I watch a lot of Hulu, YouTube, and Netflix. (And I pay to remove ads whenever possible.) But there is a certain joy and excitement that pops into my head when I go back and watch these ads.
Just heads up, some of this loading is low quality. You may need to change your volume path and kick it slightly.
I remember seeing (some) of these ads on TV and enjoying video games. .
Today it can be difficult to remember a time when games were not everywhere. But in the 90s and early 2000s games were still something of a rare commodity. We all didn't have phones with console quality in them or major eSport competitions that got millions of views on streaming sites. So to see console sales or games appear on my TV was exciting.
And during the holidays the excitement was very high. Maybe some of these games can be under my Christmas tree or maybe my friends can find one. I will soon find myself playing that cool looking game!
Looking back today, many of these commercials are cheesy and silly. But then again, many ads, even in 2019, are filthy and stupid. But watching these take me back to when the games seemed small and scrappy. It also reminds me of the wonderful holidays I spent playing games with my brother or finding that beautiful game under a tree.
Which sports advertising from the holidays do you remember?
