The fourth installment of Monster Energy Supercross is ready to sign the best version of all the motocross games currently on the market. Is it really like that?
Monster Energy Supercross – The official video game 4 brings the spectacle so popular in the USA before the race, good fireworks and running. For this edition, we must be grateful that the creator, Milestone, insists on giving players more variety and a range of customization options that are worth highlighting. All of the official circuit tracks of the 11 corresponding stadiums are in place, including Salt Lake City 7.
In all honesty, the best thing about the game for me was its extensive customization. With track and driver editors, engine and mechanic enthusiasts, you will spend hours tuning your bike.
With the track editor we can create a racetrack according to our wishes, combining all kinds of challenges: small, big jumps, open corners, narrow, straight straights to give you gas … everything is malleable according to our understanding of Supercross. Of course, you have to finish a rather boring and monotonous tutorial first.
For the driver editor, three quarters of that as it offers a variety of options with more than 110 official championship brands. You can shape absolutely anything from changing the tubes, the brakes, the handlebars … and of course the graphic designs and colors that represent our character.
If you only hear the roar of the engines and the noise surrounding the stadiums, you are already walking on the skin of a “driver”. Previous events and driver introductions have been successful depending on the racetrack on which the event takes place.
Already in the gameplay of Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 4, handlebar in hand, if someone thinks that the basis of the experience is acceleration and braking (RT and LT), they’d better not buy the game. With a combination of clutch (LB) and acceleration at the perfect moment, leaving the grid is not difficult to learn.
The most important command that can cause most headaches is to control the position of the driver’s body. With the right control stick (RS) you have to change the position of your driver according to the characteristics of the racetrack. For example, depending on the jump, you might need to throw your body backwards to gain more height or forward if you want to cover more meters.
The most difficult aspect, however, is mastering the bicycle’s receptions, which also depend on the posture of the “rider”. Until you understand how harmonious the driver and vehicle must be, you won’t have the fingers of your hands to count the falls. It can be frustrating for the first few days, but from then on you start to enjoy yourself.
In my opinion, the game modes are not enough. In reality, multiplayer wasn’t available for our tests, but in the final game, combining online races with user-created tracks can expand the choices, and especially departure times.
Without the online mode, the life of Monster Energy Supercross 4 is quite limited. It’s true that the career mode is improving, that the workouts and special events break the monotony of classic career modes, but the addition of the new Futures category is a bit misleading. With the promise poster, the first season only has 3 races. In my case, I ended up at the bottom of the table and still you get offers from devices in the next category, 250SX. Regardless of your skills, job vacancies are arriving to make the leap into the category. What reasonable person would offer a contract for such a package?
The skill tree is important for leveling up the pilot and the in-game improvements that we offer are really noticeable. But I’m not going to fool anyone when I say it seemed too shallow and not too deep because I could go six basic ways.
On the new site of the island of Maine, you can drive and visit an unspectacular island for free. If you thought of this mode as some sort of GTA that lets you go wherever you want, I’m sorry to cut your expectations. You can drive freely, but follow a kind of scripted route that can be seen on the left edge of the map. If we go crazy and go to an unavailable destination, the CPU will take care of resetting our trip.
The graphical part of this work, played on the plain Xbox One, isn’t particularly noteworthy. Acceptable in some ways, the circuitry is well illustrated and the skid marks in the mud are clearly visible. Life in the stadium looks different on the PC. On this platform we are not able to differentiate between different people in public. They are part of a generic set that behaves in the same way.
As I said, Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Video Game 4 is waiting for the online modes to be received and can give you drifts and whips for a few days. Once you exit trajectory mode it is a little lame in my opinion. Playing it online is sure to increase the life expectancy of this video game and create a lovely community for you to share and test track designs with.
For users who are inexperienced in motorcycle games or simply haven’t played any of the three Supercross above, I don’t recommend buying the game right away. You’ll feel like you’ve wasted that $ 60 starting price because the frustrations and falls are constant at the start. For lovers of mechanics and connoisseurs of motor games, it can be a good alternative, apart from the already known Formula 1, MotoGP, Forza, Gran Turismo and others.
