With friends like Ridley Scott, who needs a publicist anyway? In a candid moment between directing demigods Scott and Christopher Nolan at the Directors Guild of America, the Gladiator II director let it slide that its latest leading man, Paul Mescal, would “play The Beatles next,” in reference to the actor working on Sam Mendes' upcoming Beatles biopic.

Mendes' ambitious four-part biopic series attempts to tell the story of the Beatles from the perspective of each of the four legendary band members. Salt burn Star Barry Keoghan was announced by the series as the one to portray Ringo Starr Even a Beatles drummer last month. A source related to the production of the biographies confirmed with diversity that Mescal is attached to the project, although we don't know which of the remaining three Beatles members he would play. Mescal has been rumored to be involved in the biopic series since June when reports about him began circulating plays Paul McCartney.

Scott may have dropped this truth bomb to preemptively quell the anger of fans who were expecting Mescal and Scott to get back together for the director's upcoming film The dog stars. News that the two might be working together again for this film first broke last month. However, during his conversation with Nolan, Scott noted that filming for the Beatles biopic could conflict with ongoing production The dog stars. “Maybe I have to let him go,” he admitted.

It would be a shame if the two didn't get a reunion after their blockbuster success Gladiator IIa film we admitted wasn't one of those Ridley Scott's best efforts but at least it was better than everything else Hannibal tried to be. Still, as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time, Mescal has to undergo hours of training to learn how to sing some of the best songs of the 1960s, like Timothée Chalamet did in preparation for the Bob Dylan biopic A complete unknownthen we can go without another Scott/Mescal film for a few more years.
