Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed this today snowpiercer and The host Writer and director Bong Joon-ho is currently filming the sequel to his class satire, which won Best Picture in 2019 parasite. The film, a sci-fi story called Mickey 17, will star Robert Pattinson in the title role. A synopsis of the film’s plot was not immediately available, but Warner Bros. reports that Bong wrote the screenplay as an adaptation of The book 2022 Mickey 7by Edward Ashton. Marvel Cinematic Universe star Mark Ruffalo will co-star nopeis Steven Yeun, Hereditary Star Toni Collette and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkeris Naomi Ackie.
Mickey 7 revolves around a cloned worker named “Expendable” who, through several iterations of his life, becomes aware that he is being sent on a series of highly dangerous missions because he can easily be replaced. After one of those missions, he returns to find that his replacement, Mickey 8, has already reported for duty. It’s a scenario that might immediately remind sci-fi fans of previous films – Duncan Jones’ moon and Joseph Kosinskis oblivion Both feature “disposable” space workers learning uncomfortable truths about their mission and their situation.
Bong probably has his own strong spin on this material, given his habit of bringing his own life and work into films like parasite. (See, he’s already added 10 full-fledged Mickeys to the equation.) Ashton’s scenario seems particularly well-suited for a writer-director who consistently creates films about class and income inequality, society’s lower classes and outcasts, and the struggle for justice and justice has turned recognition in an unbalanced society. The idea of a worker created to serve, and die for, more privileged people seems right up his alley. However, we’ll have to wait more than a year to see what his version of the story looks like. Mickey 17 The worldwide release is scheduled for March 29, 2024.
