parasite And Snow Piercer Director Bong Joon-ho typed dusk The heartthrob cast serious actor Robert Pattinson in the lead role in his upcoming film Science fiction film Mickey 17 about a man who gets cloned and kills a group of people in space. And Pattinson apparently experimented with some very unusual voices for two of the clones, and Bong said no.
“My original idea was to do impressions of Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville [from Jackass]”, Pattinson told Rich in a new interview. “I love Steve-O’s voice. We did it on the first read through. And Bong said, “That voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard.” I said, “Is that a good thing?” He said, ‘No.'”
Since each copy of the titular Mickey, an unfortunate worker turned test subject on a colony ship, is played by Pattinson, he had to find ways to differentiate each numbered version. “I just had this idea that he was kind of like a dog that lacked self-esteem,” he said. “He keeps showing up and reporting for duty. But then I hope it turns out to be a combination of deep, misplaced guilt and also survival. He’s the one who just says, ‘I’m going to keep lowering my expectations all the time.'” Great vibes, as the kids say.
Pattinson ultimately settled on an equally unlikely inspiration for the voices of Mickey 17 and 18.”[Mickey 17 is] a bit like Stimpy,” he said Richand refers to the absurd Nickelodeon of the 90s about a chihuahua and a cat. “When 18 comes in, it’s a little more like Ren.” Mickey 17 hits theaters on January 31, 2025, but if you want to learn more about Pattinson’s inspirations: The Ren & Stimpy Show is currently streaming on Paramount+.
