Alien: Romulus seems to be a terrible love letter to the first film in the series, released in the late 70s. But this sci-fi horror classic is not the only Romulus When you watch the film later this week, look for the emergency telephones that first appeared decades later in Alien: IsolationAnd then prepare yourself for a shock.
Alien: Romuluswhich hits theaters later this week, is primarily inspired by Ridley Scott’s original film. It ignores many of the larger universe developed in later films
In an interview with Inside Total Film podcast, Romulus Director Fede Alvarez said the horror game convinced him that the Xenomorph could be scary again after numerous sequels and cameos in other games, films and comics.
“Alien: Isolation was what made me realize that Foreigner could be really scary and well done [today]”, said Alvarez, as reported GamesRadar.
“ I played it a few years after it was released. Don’t breathe
Save stations from Alien: Isolation appear regularly in Romulus
However, insulation inspired Alvarez not only to create a new, scary Foreigner Film. The survival horror game is also mentioned directly in the film, in a nice detail that isolation Save Stations, which appear as emergency call boxes in the game. Players must stop what they are doing, walk up to one of these boxes and activate it to save their game. As such, these are important devices that usually appear in areas where you might be attacked or killed. And Alvarez did something similar in the film.
“The film is structured in such a way [that] every time something bad will happen, you will see [an emergency] Telephone”, the Romulus Director and co-writer explained.
“In the game, every time you knew there was a phone in the game, you thought, ‘Shit, I’m about to get into a bad situation.’ It’s the same here. You’ll see that they’re strategically placed throughout the movie. When you see the phone, you think, brace yourself for impact.”
Alien: Romulus is in theaters August 16. I’ll be looking for emergency numbers and getting ready to scream.
