Akitoshi Kawazu sounds like a very busy guy. In one tweet Today he thanked the fans for supporting the saga Series in 2021 and said it would keep working for their support in 2022. what did he mean exactly? Fountain…
According to Kawazu, he’s working on a remaster, a remake, and a new entry in the saga Series. “I work hard to bring good news to everyone,” added Kawazu. Hopefully this means there will be announcements in the next year.
Kawazu, the co-author of the first Final Fantasy Game, originally published the first game in the SaGa series in 1989 The Final Fantasy legend, known in Japan as Makai Toushi SaGa. Since then there have been over 15 entries in the series.
For the uninitiated, the SaGa series has been called a “Old JRPG” due to the way the Games have abandoned traditional JRPG conventions for unorthodox design decisions and tricky mechanics.
Even when Kawazu moved to a more senior position at Square Enix, he’s still handy with that saga Series. For example, Kawazu developed the concept for 2018 Romantic saga Re: Universe, but written and co-designed SaGa: Scarlet Grace, that was first published in Japan on the PS Vita before it was ported to a number of other platforms.
There are a number of theories on Twitter about what the remaster might be with the first Romantic SaGa
Already in 2017, Kotaku Kawazu asked about the possibility of a remake SaGa limit with the content cut out of the game. “Of course I would,” Kawazu answered, “but I’m not sure God would keep me alive until it can be realized.”
Be curious what Kawazu has in store saga in 2022 and beyond!
